Jingpo Lake - Jingpohu UNESCO Global Geopark

Jingpo Lake, an important part of Jingpohu UNESCO Global Geopark, is the largest volcanic dammed lake in China. It was formed by the lava flowing into then blocking the upper reaches of Mudan River during volcanic eruption. The total acreage of the lake is 79.3 km2 with gross storage capacity around 1.62×109 m3. The lake surface is S-shaped with 45 km in length, 6 km at its widest place and 0.5 km at its narrowest place. The lake water is shallow in the south and deep in the north with 60 m at its deepest point. The largest basalt waterfall, Diaoshuilou Waterfalls, is at the site where Jingpo lake water drops into Mudan River.

Jingpo Lake gets its name for the surrounding mountains and its mirror-like waveless water. Some islands are scattered all over the lake like stars, among which the famous developed scenic spots include Dagu Mountain, Xiaogu Mountain, White Rock Cliff, Pearl Gate, Deer Island, Chairman Mao Mountain,  Taoist Mountain, Yama’s Nose, Crow Mountain, Yingge Hill, Chongchunheshan City, etc.
