Recently, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly named 32 units as the first batch of national land and resources science base, Yandangshan Global Geopark ranked among them, became the only selected units in Zhejiang Province.
Yandangshan, with a number of Global-class and national titles, is located in Yueqing, partly in Yongjia and Wenling. The Yandangshan was formed one hundred and twenty million years ago as a Cretaceous Cretaceous crater in the continental margin of the Pacific Ocean. This is the name of the "Yandangshan".
Yandangshan Global Geopark covers a total area of 298.8 square kilometers, including Yandangshan Park, Fangshan Changyu Dongtian Park and Nanxi River Park, with a free geological and geomorphologic science exhibition hall open to the public, with a building area of more than 1500 square meters.
Yandangshan Park is a natural park based on Cretaceous fluid-textured volcanic geology and landforms, including geology, lithofacies, rock and other volcanic geological landscapes, peaks, gates, caves, waterfalls and other landforms. Dongtian Park of Changyu in Fangshan Mountain is a mining cave site and volcanic landform landscape while Nanxijiang Park is dominated by river landforms and ancient villages.
Yandangshan Global Geopark was approved by UNESCO to enter the Global Geopark Network in 2005. It is also the first geopark with Mesozoic volcanic geological and geomorphological landscape as its theme. It is praised as "Rock" by UNESCO. Water, Symphony of Life, one of the wonders of the Global.
Over the years, Yandangshan Global Geopark has done a lot of work in scientific research and science popularization, network and publicity, protection and construction. Every year, the park organizes activities such as Earth Day, National Science Popularization week, Earth Science Summer Camp and popular Science propaganda, and successively holds the first China Volcano Geopark Forum to build a national research and study tour base. In combination with the continuous improvement of infrastructure construction and the construction of intelligent scenic spots, the geological relics are effectively protected, which plays a positive role in spreading the knowledge of geoscience and improving the scientific literacy of the whole people.
